Flagstaff Area Maps

Maps of the South of Flagstaff area
and
the state of Arizona are
provided here to inform visitors about where we are located.
Maps are great tools that help you understand an area and its surroundings.
Most maps fall short in communicating geographic features
such as elevation. The South of Flagstaff Arizona communities are located in two
distinctive geographic regions delineated by the Mogollon Rim The Flagstaff
region above the Rim is in the 7000 foot elevation range. Below the Rim, Sedona
and other Verde Valley communities are in the 3000 to 4500 foot elevation.
Maps of the individual South of Flagstaff communities
may be accessed using the links at the bottom of this page. Use

As
you can see below, we're in north-central Arizona... about mid-way between Phoenix and the Utah border.

The primary north - south highway is Interstate 17, which connects
Flagstaff and Phoenix.
The communities of Kachina Village, Mountainaire, and Pinewood - Munds Park are accessed from
Interstate17.Forest Highlands is just a few miles south of
Flagstaff, and is reached via state route 89A.
To reach this highway from Flagstaff, take
Interstate 17 south to the first exit (the Flagstaff airport and Coconino County
fairgrounds - Ft. Tuthill exit). Turn right from the exit ramp, and immediately turn left
onto state route 89A at the stop sign.
State route 89A runs north - south. It lies to the west of I-17 and connects Flagstaff and Sedona. This very
scenic highway
winds through the Ponderosa forest to the head of Oak Creek Canyon.
The highway then makes a steep, winding decent into Oak Creek Canyon. The
stretch of highway from the head of the canyon to Sedona has been named one of
the most beautiful drives in the USA.
Several Forest Service campgrounds in Oak Creek
Canyon and around Sedona are also accessed from state route 89A. This highway
continues across the Verde Valley, up Mingus Mountain and towards Prescott.
The area to the southeast of Flagstaff (above the Rim) is a beautiful recreation
destination. Tall pines and junipers, fishing lakes, hiking and biking trails
abound in the forest along Lake Mary Road.
Lake Mary Road
lies to the east of Interstate17 and connects with I-17 in
Flagstaff. It also runs north -
south. This road connects Flagstaff and Clints Well, a community located near the intersection of Lake Mary Road and
State Route 87.
Several communities are located along Lake Mary
Road, just south of the Flagstaff city limits. Farther south you'll find several
good fishing lakes, including Lake Mary (both the upper and lower lakes),
the turn off to Ashurst Lake, and Mormon Lake.
There are a number of Forest Service
campgrounds and areas suitable for dry camping in this area.
A Google search using
the keyword phrase street maps + flagstaff (or another place name) will
display a variety of resources... not just street map sources. Be sure to notice the relevant ads down the right side... those are resources
also.
